Believe the Musical 2010

Hi all

Just want to share something with you all, if that’s all right It’s something rather special to me

As many of you may know, “Believe” was inspired by the students of Outram Secondary School, when I was teaching there The students there have always had a special place in my heart

I wrote the musical and the songs there. The very first staging of “Believe” was done with the students and teachers of Outram Secondary School. So much of the history of “Believe” is within the walls of the school, and in the lives of its teachers and students

A few days ago (Monday), the school show team and I had the good opportunity to return to Outram Secondary School to do a school show I arrived early, and was pleasantly surprised that the aunty and uncle at the canteen’s coffee stall still remember me

I ordered my cup of coffee (the uncle still remembers that I take it light on sweet!) and sat down at the table. A flurry of memories came back to me, and I saw myself talking with my students in the morning, where I would have my breakfast, and they’d gather, and we’d talk about anything under the sun

How I miss those days

We had our performance later that day, and when we’re back at the canteen selling tickets, I suddenly realised how very very blessed I am, that I am able, after 4 years since “Believe” came to be, to stage it again, and on top of that, have 4 of my students from Outram Secondary School participate in it

In fact, I am blessed that I am surrounded by my students in this production Blessed because they have chosen to give of their time, energy and effort towards what is very much my dream I can only hope that what they see and learn during the production more than compensate for what they have put it

As we packed up to leave, I took one last look at the school, and realised that I have never left it; it was and is always in my heart

A full circle moment… what a life!
